Highway Department
Throughout the year, the Highway Crew maintains 44.66 miles of town roads and maintains the Town's gravel pit. The East Bloomfield Highway Department works with surrounding highway departments, through a municipal agreement, to help them maintain their roads as they do for us throughout the year.
The Town of East Bloomfield’s crew maintains the Town's roads in the summer by rebuilding, oil & stoning, paving, ditching, mowing, tree trimming, and installing driveway accesses. The crew has two members who are licensed by the State of New York to operate a public water system, and maintain the department's equipment. They also maintain the roads in the winter.
Winter Snowplow/Sanding Times: The usual 4-Truck plow run starts at 4:00 a.m. on an overnight snow/ice event, and takes approximately 2 ½ hours to complete 64.45 centerline miles of road. That includes Town, County, and some State and Village roads in our township (almost 129 lane miles of road) that are cleared of snow with salt/sand mix applied.
Starting times and the number of times we go out throughout the day and night may be adjusted for the severity of the storm event.
We try to have the roads covered once, and as close to the time that the school buses begin their routes. This schedule also corresponds with the time the traveling/commuting public begins using the roads heavily.
Safety Reminder
Keep a safe distance behind any large vehicle. If you cannot see their side mirrors, they cannot see you.
Reminder during snow season: Please keep your trash bins back from the shoulder of the road and in line with your mailbox. Thank you.
